PROVO—The No. 25 Colorado Buffaloes hit the road for the first time in 2022, traveling to No. 9 BYU on Monday (3 pm MT).

The Buffs enter the third week of the season with a perfect 3-0 record. Colorado is the only Pac-12 school to hit double-digits in total goals so far this season, totaling 13 goals in its three games. The Buffs are averaging 4.33 goals per game early on this season with its lowest output of three coming against Valparaiso.

“I thought we were a little sluggish [Friday],” head coach Danny Sanchez said after moving to 3-0. “I think we had one eye on Monday [BYU]. We know the challenge of going to Provo to play BYU, the national runners-up. We’re excited about the opportunity. This is why our players come to CU. To play in these big games. We’re excited about the challenge but like I told the team there are still 16 more games after Monday. Win, lose or draw, there’s still going to be 16 more games.”

BYU (2-0) is fresh off a 2-0 win over No. 20 Ohio State on Friday. The Cougars, the 2022 national runner up, return eight starters from their College Cup run. BYU opened the season no. 3 in the rankings, its highest preseason ranking in program history.

The last time the two schools played in the spring, but the last time CU faced BYU in regular season play was in 2017. The Buffs picked up a 3-0 win over BYU. Taylor Kornieck opened the scoring and Tatum Barton put in two more in Boulder. The Buffs have yet to earn a result in Provo.

“It’s a tough place to play at but I think we’re ready,” fifth-year defender Hannah Sharts commented.

Monday’s game will be televised on BYUtv.
