Record Store Day at Lavender Vinyl 2022
Record Store Day, held annually across the globe, was started in 2008 to celebrate the culture of independent record stores and the impact they make in their communities. Exclusive vinyl releases and promotional products drive the excitement on RSD each year, always the third Saturday in April; but it’s also a big party at many record shops, like Ogden’s Lavender Vinyl, with special activities and giveaways. RSD 2022 at Lavender Vinyl will be their biggest yet. Owners Kye Hallows and Blake Lundell say they’ve ordered more RSD products this year than ever before, and the outdoor party will also include a zine launch and vinyl record spinning. They will also have their own RSD T-shirts and posters designed by local artists Ruby Relics, totes and swag, and other giveaways. Hallows is excited about the jazz releases and first-time vinyl release of Kittie’s 2000 debut album “Spit,” and Lundell’s eyes are on the 40th anniversary edition of The Cure’s 1982 album “Pornography.” They’re looking forward to the “community vibe” and celebrating with friends and community supporters of their “queer lil shop.”
RSD AT LAVENDER VINYL 2022 LINEUP:
- 8 am tickets handed out. Free totes with RSD swag to the first 20 customers in line; posters and other giveaways to the first 50.
- 10 am tent sale begins. All RSD items will be outside in the tent. People are called by their ticket number to shop, 10-12 at a time.
- 12 pm Zine Launch Party — The second edition of the The LQ, a queer art zine, will be available to RSD patrons for the first time.
- 12-5 pm Record Store Day Party at Lighthouse Lounge — take your new vinyl to the bar across the street for the listening party and have a brew!

HillFest
Ogden is getting a surprise music festival next weekend with a huge lineup of touring artists: the party blues-rock of Andy Frasco & The UN, Fruition’s bluegrass-rock and elevating harmonies, Grammy award-nominated blues-rock jam band North Mississippi Allstars, the punk-reggae-ska mix of Bumpin Uglies, and Neal Francis on the keys with his signature blend of ’70s rock, New Orleans rhythm and Chicago blues. Local opening acts include The Proper Way, Compass Rose and Imag!nary Friendz.
HillFest 2022 was relocated from Powder Mountain to Ogden Amphitheater and Ogden Union Station after cancellation of Triple Crown and RMSHA’s snowmobile portion of the event due to low snowfall and rapid snowmelt. This would have been the first RMSHA competition at Powder Mountain, but Triple Crown will bring it back to the Eden ski resort again next year — earlier, they said, in hopes for more snow.
