OGDEN — Construction for the Utah Transit Authority’s new Ogden Express bus rapid transit system, or OGX, entered into the final phase Friday, starting the last of the work that is expected to wrap up sometime next summer.

As part of the last phase, a new traffic shift along Harrison Boulevard has been made and will remain in place until construction is completed. While two lanes of traffic are maintained in each direction along Harrison, drivers will be rerouted to outside lanes between 31st and 37th streets for crews working to complete dedicated center bus lanes for the OGX system.

In accommodating work along the center of the roadway, left-hand turns are limited to 32nd and 36th streets, giving drivers a glimpse of things to come.

Because of the center bus lanes going in between 32nd Street and 3850 South at the mouth of the Weber State University main campus, once the OGX transit line is in service, left turns off of Harrison will only be allowed at the 32nd and 36th street intersections .

UTA is advising drivers to use caution along Harrison and other areas throughout the city as various forms of work continue, including storm drain installation at the Intermodal Hub on 23rd Street and Wall Avenue.

All traffic along 23rd Street from Lincoln to Grant avenues remain restricted until paving is completed in the spring, weather conditions permitting.

The 5.3-mile Ogden Express will replace former UTA bus route 603, providing riders with an electric bus ride from the Ogden FrontRunner Station through downtown, down to Weber State and McKay-Dee Hospital.

According to the UTA, riders will be able to catch the OGX every 10-15 minutes on weekdays and 15-30 minutes on weekends.
