Ogden is the newest city in Utah to ban fireworks

Open burning is also prohibited within the city limits – the restriction applies until November.

(Mark Hansen | The Salt Lake Tribune) Ogden residents are not allowed to use fireworks until November.

Ogden residents must join Salt Lake City residents to avoid setting off fireworks on this Independence Day.

Ogden City Council unanimously passed a resolution on Thursday banning fireworks, open burns and recreational fires within city limits.

The ban will last until November 15, unless the Ogden City Fire Chief determines that environmental conditions have improved enough to end the ban. Council members had previously said they were concerned that water protection measures to combat the state’s drought have resulted in arid vegetation in the city that could pose a fire risk, according to city meeting documents.

A number of other cities in Utah, including Holladay and Salt Lake City, have also banned fireworks.
