OGDEN — Freddy Achecar drove in five runs, Reese Alexiades hit three doubles and the Ogden Raptors outpaced the Northern Colorado Owlz 20-14 in the finale of the six-games set to earn a series split for the Raptors and end a three-game losing streak

Ogden rapped 17 hits, with 10 of them going for extra bases (six doubles, four homers).

The fireworks began early for Ogden (10-7), who built a 7-1 lead after two innings. Alexiades recorded his first double in the first inning to drive in a run, then scored on a Jesus Valdez single to go up 2-1.

In the second, outfielder Pat Adams doubled in two runs, Achecar hit a sacrifice fly and catcher Sonny Ulliana drove in Alexiades for the 7-1 margin.

Northern Colorado (8-8) cut the score to 8-4 when Ty Lewis hit a solo homer in the fourth, but Valdez answered with a solo knock in the bottom half and second baseman Dakota Conners went yard for another run in the fifth to make it 10-4.

Ogden kept piling it on in the sixth when Achecar singled in a run, scored on a wild pitch and then Anthony Ray singled in a pair for a 15-6 tally.

In the eighth, the Owlz made it interesting with a five-run frame as clean-up hitter Brian Dansereau cleared loaded bases with a double to cut it to 15-11.

The Raptors answered in the bottom half to put the game away, though the Owlz would tack on a few more in the ninth. Nick Michaels hit a two-run homer and Achecar sent a three-run blast over the wall for a 20-11 score through eight innings.

Ronny Orta (3-0, 4.50) picked up his second win of the series by going 5 1/3 innings, allowing 10 hits and six runs while striking out three in the high-scoring affair.

Kida De La Cruz got the loss for Northern Colorado in his first appearance for the club since he changed clubhouses during the series in a trade (Ogden’s return is a player to be named later). The Raptors walloped their former teammate for 12 earned runs on 10 hits while drawing six walks in four innings.

Valdez finished 4 for 5 at the plate with two RBIs and two runs scored. Valdez leads the Raptors with a .393 batting average. Alexiades and Achecar each have four homers for the club, with Achecar leading the team in RBIs (24) and Alexiades leading in doubles (10).

Ogden ends the third series of the season with a two-game lead in first place of the Pioneer League’s South Division.
