Olympic Update, Dark Skies and RAP Tax On Tap for Wasatch Officials’ Meeting

Wasatch County, Heber City and Midway City government agencies will meet virtually via Zoom on Wednesday at 6:30 pm The inter-local meeting covers various topics that affect the residents of Wasatch Back.

The agenda for the interlocal meeting is full of items that KPCW has been following.

Bob Allen, Senior Planner for the Mountainland Association of Governments, opens the meeting to discuss the Corridor Access Agreement for State Routes 113 and 222, which are attached to US Highways 189 and 40.

Wasatch City Councilor Kendall Crittenden will moderate the discussion on affordable housing, air quality and working with local authorities and jurisdictions on cybersecurity.

Heber City Mayor Kelleen Potter will be providing an Olympic update.

Heber City Manager Matt Brower will lead a discussion on the Dark Skies Ordinance and an update on the Community Reinvestment Act for Heber City’s historic downtown district. He will also present strategies for maintaining open space.

Heidi City Councilor Heidi Franco will propose a volunteer rainwater coalition in Wasatch County. Attending the discussion are Kelsey Christiansen, Summit County’s Rainwater Coordinator, and Sandy Wingert, Coordinator for the Department of Environmental Quality for the Upper Provo River. Franco has raised concerns about rainwater runoff and planned new developments in the North Village area.

Wasatch county and city officials have discussed the introduction of a RAP (recreation, arts and parking) tax in the county. It’s a recreation, arts, and park tax that can help maintain and create facilities across Wasatch County.
