PBL’s Lillie Frichtl sets school record during Lady Falcon Track and Field Invite

PBL’s Lillie Frichtl runs in the 100-meter dash during Friday’s Lady Falcon Invite. She would finish second with a school record time of 12.96 seconds.

GIBSON CITY – Lillie Frichtl has her eye on a state-meet appearance.

The Paxton-Buckley-Loda High School girls track and field senior athlete is well-aware of the state-qualifying time for the 100-meter dash. Athletes who do not finish in the top two in the 100-meter dash at this upcoming May’s sectional meet need to reach a time of 12.95 seconds at the meet.

Until Friday’s Lady Falcon Invite, no PBL girls athlete had reached that time in a meet. During the meet, however, Frichtl set the school record by running the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.96 seconds.

“I knew to get to state, you have to run a 12.95, and that’s what I got,” Frichtl said. “I was working towards that. It feels pretty good. I’ve been working since freshman year to do good in that, and it paid off.”

The time was good enough for second place at the meet behind Hoopeston Area’s Bre Crose, who won the race with a time of 12.8 seconds.

Frichtl also helped PBL’s 4×200 relay squad, which also consisted of Bailey Luebchow, Trixie Johnson and Maisy Johnson, finish first with a time of 1:54.82.

“It was pretty good. I felt good,” Frichtl said. “We’ve got to clean up a few things with the handoffs, but otherwise, we’re pretty good.”

Frichtl finished first in the long jump as well with a leap of 4.71 meters.

The Panthers will have less than a month to prepare for sectionals as they, along with fellow Ford County school Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley will participate in the Class 1A Bloomington Central Catholic Sectional on May 11.

“We’ve still got time to prepare. I’m looking forward to the rest of my senior year,” Frichtl said. “Hopefully, I’ll get to state and end my senior year on a good note.”
