PEG Companies Rounds Out New Development at Freedom Commons | Provo News

Provo residents and downtown visitors will be familiar with the cranes that fill the skyscape around approximately 200 North and Freedom Boulevard.

On Wednesday, these cranes lifted the last steel girder as work continued on the Freedom Commons industrial estate.

A network of local business leaders work together to bring Provo an innovative new office experience. With the aim of easing the challenges of returning to the office for a post-pandemic workforce, commercial real estate company PEG Companies is reinventing its corporate headquarters and welcoming other companies that are now joining its multiblock development in the center of downtown.

The Freedom Commons business park includes the first Class A office built in downtown Provo in nearly a decade. The innovative offices are intended to support the well-being of the employees and at the same time promote the work-life balance. They will be the first of their kind in Provo.

“Right now, people in the United States are noticing Utah for the enterprising and hardworking spirit we exude here. There is no better place for business or families, ”said Utah Governor Spencer Cox. “As we plan for the continued growth that we will undoubtedly see in the years to come, building a world-class infrastructure like Freedom Commons will be critical.”

“If you want to attract high-caliber talent, you need to create a great experience for your employees,” added Rob Fetzer, Chief Operating Officer of PEG. “I believe that successful companies after the pandemic need to go beyond professional development and support their employees in a much more holistic way.”

The Freedom Commons is located at 182 N. Freedom Blvd. and will feature a large 2,000-square-foot fitness center with state-of-the-art equipment, secure lockers, showers, and more. Other amenities of the Freedom Commons include an urban green design with various outdoor work areas, a huge 4,500 square meter square, spacious landscaped paseo and germ-minimizing technology, and multiple plug-in spaces for food truck parking. Adjacent to the offices will be several retail stores and a large 654-space covered parking garage for the community to use – a welcome solution to the huge demand for parking that Provo City has been interested in in recent years.

“Provo is a growing hotspot for innovative companies. You look at very successful companies like Nu Skin, Qualtrics, Novell and many others that have headquartered here, and it’s easy to see why, ”said Cameron Gunter, PEG chief executive officer. “We have two top performing universities in our backyard, we have a well-educated workforce, a hard-working culture, and an incredibly strong economy.”

Freedom Commons is also located in one of the 8,700 Qualified Opportunity Zones in the US established by the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, designed to fuel economic growth and job creation through tax breaks for investors. Companies at Freedom Commons have the option to create their own personalized floor plans and take advantage of the tenant improvement allowances available to make their offices unique.

“Freedom Commons, located in Utah County’s central business district, is forever changing the skyline with its distinctive six-story Class A buildings,” said Brandon Fugal, chairman of Colliers. “No other project offers companies the high-profile signage, identity and quality of Freedom Commons.”

Freedom Commons is the result of a collaboration between PEG, Provo Redevelopment Agency, Utah County and Provo City. Construction work on the office development part of Freedom Commons will be completed in spring 2022. As part of their long-term partnership with the city, PEG has also developed the neighboring Hyatt Place Hotel and is currently working on the nearby 250 I Street Townhomes.
