Perfect new nicknames for 11 cities in southern Idaho

It never fails, and not just here in Idaho, when you tell someone the name of a city they will instantly point to something they think they know about that city. Sometimes we say the name of a city by default and then reference something about it so that outsiders know what we are talking about. That makes sense, because every city has a name and something special. There is nothing special there other than Chubbuck. Chubbuck actually brings us to the point of this story: If you couldn’t call the city by name and had to use a catchphrase or nickname, which one would it be?

We selected 11 cities in South Idaho and gave them new, better slogans: Not including South Idaho, which we will call “Better Idaho” from now on.

Chubbuck

“The Armpit of Idaho” would be a good nickname for this best-forgotten city.

Twin cases

There are a couple of nicknames that would be great for Twin Falls. ‘Western Niagara’ would clear up a lot of confusion. No more explanation of where the Twin Falls are or whether the Shoshone Falls are different from the nonexistent Twin Falls. ‘Perrine Bridgetown’ or ‘BASE Jump Haven’ also makes more sense as we have the Perrine Bridge and it’s a popular tourist spot.

Boise

‘The Real Home of Blue Grass’ thanks to the smurf turf in the Bronco Stadium.

Jerome

‘Wish it was Twin Falls’. Let’s face it, Jerome may be cool, but there is an underlying jealousy of the big brother city on the other side of the canyon.

Kimberly

“New Twin Falls” is the perfect name for Kimberly. In the past few years, a mecca of Twin Falls residents has moved to tiny Kimberly, and that has turned the small town into a cool mini version of Twin.

Burley

‘Not as manly as it sounds’. When I first moved to Idaho, the name Burley kept thinking of tall, hairy residents. Burley is really full of great people and not too much testosterone.

Albion

‘Only Exists in the Fall’ describes the small town of Albion perfectly. When the Haunted Mansions are open the place is a madhouse and then disappears into the shadows and our nightmares until next season.

Black foot

“Not as racist as it sounds” is a great slogan for Blackfoot. Given the current state of the demolition culture and political correctness, how did Blackfoot slip under the radar?

Rexburg

North Provo explains Rexburg perfectly if you’ve been to Provo, Utah.

Buhl

‘Come during the mugwort days’. Buhl is a pretty terrible name, when I moved here I pronounced it as ‘Bu-Loch’ for a while until I got corrected and embarrassed. You should definitely be in Buhl for the Sagebrush Days, at least for the parade every year.

Sun Valley

‘Posh Idaho’. Sun Valley is always considered to be the chic city where the rich and famous live, visit, and own vacation homes.

These are our new nicknames and slogans for 11 Better Idaho cities.
