Post-Race Party Will Keep Ogden Newspapers Wellness Weekend Rocking | News, Sports, Jobs

File Photo – Participants scale the Walls of Fort Henry near the finish line of the 2019 Tough as Nails Urban Challenge. After both this year’s Tough as Nails and the Ogden Newspapers Half Marathon Classic on Memorial Day weekend, post-race parties will provide music, food and drink to keep the fun rolling.

WHEELING — During both days of the Ogden Newspapers Wellness Weekend presented by WVU Medicine, the fun doesn’t end once contestants cross the finish line.

There will be more waiting for everyone — from competitors to spectators — both after the Ogden Half Marathon Classic on Saturday, May 28, and the Tough As Nails Urban Challenge presented by The Health Plan on Sunday, May 29. The Post-Race Party on both days will feature plenty of great music, food to satisfy the appetite and drinks to quench the thirst.

These parties are another facet of the weekend, a way to bring everyone together and make it a full-on entertainment event.

“We always want to do this for the community,” said Brian Clutter, Operations Director for The Intelligencer and Wheeling News-Register. “We want to make this a true community event rather than just a road race.”

On Saturday, as runners traverse the Ogden Half Marathon Classic course, the entertainment begins early. DJ Jan Jursa will spin tunes starting at 7:30 am until 2 pm Also at 7:30 am that day, the Ultra Bar, sponsored by Carenbauer Distributing Corp., will open. There, runners and spectators can purchase beer, hard seltzers and other beverages. There will be booths to check IDs and to purchase drink tickets and ATMs will be on site.

The Tough As Nails Urban Challenge starts at noon Sunday, and the Ultra Bar will be open for business at 1 pm That day, competitors and spectators will be able to enjoy cold drinks while listening to live music.

Local rock band Spinning Jenny will take the stage from 1:30-3 pm that day. The Mingo Junction, Ohio, group consists of sisters Julia, Talia and Angelina Balzano and their father, Dr. John Balzano. The group focuses on rock and punk music and pepper in well-known and more obscure covers with their original songs.

After another DJ set from 3-4:30 pm, Pittsburgh band Jukebox will take the stage from 4:30-6 pm This Pittsburgh-based group travels all around western Pennsylvania and West Virginia’s Northern Panhandle, playing an eclectic lineup of cover songs by artists from Aerosmith to Train to Maroon 5.

And on both days, there will be a variety of food trucks on site featuring various cuisines to munch on. The party will take place both days at the waterfront near WesBanco Arena in downtown Wheeling.

“This is just a great kickoff to summer,” Clutter said.
