Prep football roundup: Davis soars late, Morgan blanks Manti | News, Sports, Jobs

KAYSVILLE — Davis High football roared to three fourth-quarter touchdowns to defeat Alta 28-16 at home on Friday night.

Alta led 10-7 at halftime. Jackson Stevens threw touchdown passes to Tyce Wilson and Tyson Elkins in the fourth quarter, and Josh Barker punched in a 1-yard TD run to put Davis up 28-10. Barker also scored a 3-yard touchdown in the first quarter.

Stevens throws 22 of 36 for 240 yards. Elkins hauled in 12 catches for 113 yards and Easton Baggett caught eight balls for 81 yards.

BOUNTIFUL 14, WOODS CROSS 7

BOUNTIFUL — Owen Geilman passed for one touchdown and ran for another as Bountiful downed Woods Cross in a defensive struggle.

Geilman connected with Tyler Black on a 5-yard scoring strike to get Bountiful (3-2, 1-0 Region 5) on the board at the 5:18 mark of the first quarter. Geilman scored on a 6-yard run with 10:56 left in the second quarter.

Lock Smoot hit Cash Henderson for a 14-yard touchdown pass for the Woods Cross (2-3, 0-1) points with 3:40 left in the third quarter.

MORGAN 42, MANTI 0

MORGAN — Nick Despain passed for four touchdowns and ran for another as Morgan shut out Manti for the second year in a row.

Despain found Lincoln Gilson for an 8-yard scoring pass and Despain added a 1-yard plunge to give Morgan (5-0) a 14-0 lead after one quarter.

Jett Salmon scored on a 14-yard run and on a 2-yard scamper early in the second quarter. Austin Aven hauled in a Despain pass for a 12-yard touchdown, then Despain found Gavin Turner for a 52-yard pitch-and-catch with 5:48 left in the first half to cap the scoring.

Despain completed 11 of 13 passes for 169 yards. The Trojans rushed for 161 yards and held Manti to 93 total yards.

LAYTON CHRISTIAN 34, JUAN DIEGO 7

DRAPER — Jessaia Giatras-Moala scored three rushing touchdowns as 1A Layton Christian won at 3A Juan Diego.

Giatras-Moala scored on runs of 2, 60 and 4 yards, all in the second quarter, for Layton Christian (3-2). Jose Ribeiro tossed a 52-yard touchdown pass to Malik Johnson, giving the Eagles a 27-0 halftime lead.

Ilai Tagidugu put LCA up 34-0 on a 1-yard plunge with 7:07 left in the game. Juan Diego broke the shutout on a rushing score with 14 seconds left.

GREEN CANYON 43, BEAR RIVER 14

GARLAND — Bear River lost touch in the final quarter as Green Canyon scored 22 unanswered points.

Ryker Jeppsen threw 16 of 26 for 130 yards, one touchdown and one interception, while adding 83 yards and a touchdown on the ground for Bear River (1-4, 0-1 Region 11). He tossed a 23-yard TD to Talon Marble in the third quarter that made it a 21-14 ballgame.

Jeppsen scored on an 8-yard rush to put BR up 7-0 early. Owen Olsen caught seven passes for 56 yards. Tyson Braegger totaled 11 tackles.

Emilie Christensen kept the clean sheet for Bonneville (10-0, 4-0), including saving a free kick in the final 20 seconds.

SPRINGVILLE — St Joseph dropped both games of a doubleheader at Merit Prep. Game scores were 17-9 and 19-0.

In the first game, Nicolas Morales batted 2 for 2 and scored one run for St Joseph (0-9, 0-9 2A). Dorian Hays had a hit and an RBI, and Joshua Ortiz drove in two.

In the nightcap, Michael Martinez and Unax Etxabe each had one hit.

AMERICAN HERITAGE 21, UTAH MILITARY 0

AMERICAN FORK — Utah Military was swept by American Heritage in a doubleheader by scores of 21-0 and 25-5.

In the first game, Easton Olsen and Sky Amboy got the only two hits for Utah Military (6-5, 6-5 2A). Stats for the second game were not available at publication time.
