3A GIRLS SOCCER BRACKET

Region 13 girls soccer champion Morgan (13-2) earned the No. 3 seed in the upcoming 3A state playoffs, as the tournament bracket was unveiled Wednesday morning.

The Trojans could see a familiar face in the quarterfinals: defending state champion Ogden. The Tigers (10-5) are the No. 6 seed, coming in just behind No. 5 Manti in the RPI rankings.

Morgan beat Ogden both times this year (1-0 at home, and a penalty shootout on the road) and the two played for last year’s 3A state title. Both teams have first-round byes and will host second-round games on Wednesday, Oct. 12.

Morgan will host the Ben Lomond/American Leadership winner. The Scots (4-11) are the No. 14 seed and host ALA at 1 pm Saturday after going 4-4 in Region 13 and finishing third.

Ogden already knows its second-round opponent will be No. 11Union. Those two will face off on Oct. 12. Since the Iron Horse football game is also scheduled for 5 pm that day, the Tigers could potentially play at 1 pm instead of 4 pm as they have in years past.

Should Ogden and Morgan advance to face each other in the quarterfinals, that match would happen at 1 pm Saturday, Oct. 15, with the winner advancing to a semifinal at Jordan High the following Thursday.
