Primary elections take place Tuesday, but many cities picked ranked choice instead

SALT LAKE CITY – Several Utah cities will be holding their local area primaries next week, but 23 will attempt a ranked election this fall instead, skipping the area code in favor of the new method.

The Utah Election website states: “The following 23 communities have announced their intention to participate in the Alternative Voting Pilot: South Salt Lake, Magna, Bluffdale, Draper, Lehi, Payson, Riverton, Springville, Vineyard, Goshen, Newton , Woodland Hills, Genola, Sandy, Nibley City, Millcreek, Moab, River Heights City, Cottonwood Heights, Elk Ridge, Salt Lake City, Midvale and Heber City. “

If you live in one of these areas and are wondering why you haven’t received your postal code for the area code, this is why.

In the meantime, local elections will take place in the following locations on Tuesday, August 10, 2021.

Davis district

There are 112 people running for public office in Davis County.

Bountiful, Centerville, Clearfield, Clinton, Farmington, South Weber, Syracuse, and West Point all have mayor primaries. Some cities also have city council area codes.

Utah County

Alpine, Orem, Provo and Santaquin will be holding mayor primaries next week.

Summit circle

Coalville and Park City will hold mayor’s primaries. Several cities have also opened seats on the city council, including Coalville, Oakley, and Park City. The South Summit Fire District will also hold a primary election for a new board member.

District Weber

There are area codes for two seats on North Ogden City Council. The Ogden City Council has two seats, as does Washington Terrace. In addition, voters elect a new West Haven mayor.

According to the Weber County Electoral Bureau, ballots were sent to all active registered voters in those cities. They should be in the voters’ mailboxes by July 27th.

For those without a ballot, the county will also conduct a personal pre-election at the Weber Center on 2380 Washington Boulevard in Ogden. Come by on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and next Monday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
