MUNCIE, Ind. – With the GLVC Outdoor Championships looming, UIndy track & field split its forces far and wide this holiday weekend. The majority of the team traveled up to Muncie, Ind., for the We Fly Challenge, hosted by Ball State University, while a pair of Greyhound flew to California to in two separate meets.
The duo of Melissa Spencer and Eline Pinter were the two that took their talents to the Golden State. At the Mt. Sac Relays in Torrance, Calif., Spencer took on the 3000-meter steeplechase and in the process hit a NCAA provisional mark. Meanwhile, Pinter was about 45 minutes northeast at the Bryan Clay Invitational. She set with a big PR in the 800, crossing in 2:13:18, and another one in the 1500 (4:32.99).
On the campus of Ball State, the pole vaulters shined once again with Lauren Joseph and Sabrina Robison both hitting a provo mark at 3.81 meters. Joseph took the victory, leaping over the bar on her second attempt versus Robison’s third attempt. Cade Priddy, not to be outshined, took home second for the men.
The other big event win, to very few surprises, was Sam DeWitt in the 110 hurdles, who brought his undefeated hurdles streak to five in a row. Alongside him, Cole Hurt notched a PR in third place and Deandre Stroud in fifth did as well. For the women, Lindsey Wormuth was the top finisher, landing in sixth with a new personal best. Stroud and Hurt kept the PRs rolling in the 400 hurdles.
The 100-meter dash saw a familiar face make his track debut. William Bell, a crossover athlete from UIndy men’s soccer, made a big impact in his first race with a fifth-place finish in a time of 11.46. He kept that going into the 200 meters where he finished sixth while Alexander Brown-Baez was right behind him in the seventh. The top finish for th 200 was Trevor Edgerton in fourth with a time of 22.72.
Josiah Adams in the 400 is always a sight to see in the heavy DI field, as he took home second with a time of 49.84. The 800 kept the individual success going with Dryden Dodson-Thomas and Mariah Judy both improving their best times.
The 1500 saew PRs for the Greyhounds, as the trio of Brandon Albin, Hannah Wells and Jazlyn Gallardo-Cortez all performed well.
High jump saw Chandler Martin place second with a leap of 1.85 meters. Lucas Roehling finished second as well in long jump.
The throws crew kept the energy high as it started to warm up. Shot put was showcased well with Brock King putting on yet another terrific performance, landing him in third place. Emily Bonser hit the top five with a 12.09 meter toss. Cristobal Munoz-Manzor hit a PR as well.
Discus saw Jacob Brouse alone hit a PR. Hammer throw, however, had five throwers hit personal bests, those being Tyler Gilbert, Evan Gaylor, Cameron Smith, Noah Mattson and Audra Hogan.

The Hounds will stay in Indiana for another week with the Indiana Wesleyan hosting Little State Championships April 22-23.
