Raymond Cornelsen Obituary (1944 – 2022) – Riverton, UT

Raymond Lee Cornelsen died peacefully in his home on June 29, 2022, after valiantly fighting cancer for more than 23 years. He was born in Rupert, Idaho on November 21, 1944, to Rueben A. Cornelsen and Mary A Maxwell. Ray grew up on a farm on the Royal Slope in Washington. He attended Othello High School and loved to play football.

Ray married the love of his life to Shauna Hunt after only a 10-day courtship on July 28, 1975, in Elko, Nevada. Ray and Shauna were sealed in the Provo Temple on July 31, 1976. Ray was a lifetime member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission as a young man in the South German Mission. As an adult, he served a second mission with his family at Adam-Ondi-Ahman in Missouri. He worked there for 20 years until his retirement. he served in many calls; Executive Secretary, Teacher, First Counselor in 4 Bishoprics, Membership Clerk and most recently as Finance Clerk for 15 years with 4 bishops.

He worked for 20 years as the Sandy Bishop Storehouse Manager until his retirement in 2011.

To Ray, his greatest achievement was submitting 268,680 names to the Temple for ordinance work. Ray had a strong testimony and loved the Lord with all his heart.

Ray enjoyed fishing and camping. The family vacations always revolved around the outdoors. He and Shauna fell in love with MooseHorn Lake in the Uinta Mountains and would spend as much time as possible there. Ray loved his family unconditionally. He was very close with his siblings.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Shauna; his children Sean (Leslie) Wojnas of Kennewick Washington; Kim (Chris) Scott of Berne Indiana; Tiffany (Garth) Cowlishaw of Kennewick Washington; Steve (Brittany) Cornelsen of Ephraim Utah; 13 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Gordon (Roma) Cornelsen, Dee (Darla) Cornelsen, Kevin (Jo Lyn) Cornelsen, and his sister Dawna Michelle (Neil) Ragonesi.

He was proceeded in death by both of his parents.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, from 6-8pm, at Larkin Mortuary, 3688 West 12600 South, Riverton, Utah 84065.

Funeral services will be held at 11am on Wednesday July 6, 2022, at the Herriman Utah Stake Center, 5562 West 13680 South, Herriman, Utah with a viewing prior beginning at 10am.

Interment will be on Thursday, July 7, 2022, at 11am at the Monroe City Cemetery, 650 N. Washburnville Road, Monroe, Utah 85754.

Funeral services will be streamed via Zoom for those unable to attend in person or wishing to attend virtually.
