2001

– The Flaming Gorge Ranger District in the Ashley National Forest planned several improvement projects around the Flaming Gorge to improve the facilities and accessibility of the gorge for boaters.

Officials were looking for a cleanup of the Firehole Recreation Complex boating area.

Plans were made to expand and repair the existing boat ramp, build a path from the ramp to the courtesy dock, expand the existing parking lot, and widen a corner with a poor turning radius.

Officials also planned to rebuild the parking lot and access road, renovate or replace the ramp toilet, replace the bulkhead and courtesy dock, and install a new fish cleaning station. The rehabilitation of the sewage systems in Buckboard, Lucerne, Firefighters and Cedar Springs was also planned.

The projects had to be outsourced by June 1, 2001. Then the contractors would have two years to complete the contracts.

– The world famous Lipizzaner stallions performed two shows on May 5th, 2001 at the Sweetwater Events Complex.

The magnificent stallions performed acrobatic maneuvers that no other breed of horse could match.

The Lipizzaner is a breed of horse named after the Lipizza Stud of the Habsburg Monarchy. The breed is closely associated with the Spanish Riding School in Vienna, where the horses demonstrate the haute-ecole or high school movements of classical dressage, including the highly controlled, stylized jumps and other movements known as air above the ground . The horses of the Spanish Riding School are trained according to traditional methods based on the principles of classical dressage.

The Union Pacific’s two steam engines arrived in Green River on the first leg of their 1,100-mile journey to a California railroad show.
