Richard Mountain Fire in Daggett County is 90% contained

UPDATE: Minimal fire activity occurred on the Richard Mountain Fire and crews were able to achieve 90% containment yesterday.

This is the last update announced by the Bureau of Land Management.

UPDATE 08/08: The fire remains on 7,633 acres with dangerous red flag weather conditions. The fire brigade will fight the fire if necessary and with a high probability of success.

The fire is 40% contained and is located approximately 5 miles north of Dutch John, UT, or 50 miles south of Rock Springs, WY.

UPDATE 08/07: Browns Park Road is now open. Officials ask people to drive slowly and carefully as extinguishing agents are available along the road.

The closings on Section B of the Green River in Utah have been lifted. Clay Basin Road remains closed on Highway 191.

The fire burned 7,633 hectares. The fire is contained to around 40%.

VERNAL, Utah (ABC4 News) – State officials ordered an emergency shutdown along the Green River as wildfire burns along the Utah-Wyoming border.

The Vernal Field Office of the Bureau of Land Management has placed a temporary closure on the “B” section of the Green River from the Little Hole boat ramp to the Indian Crossing boat ramp.

Land management officials said the closure was necessary for public safety and resource conservation due to the Richard Mountain Fire.

“I want to make sure the people we serve are safe while they relax on public land, while also giving our fire departments the flexibility to access these areas quickly to protect the valuable resources here. Once the Richard Mountain Fire is contained and the risk is over, everyone here at the BLM Vernal Field Office looks forward to welcoming the public back to their public land, ”said Roger Bankert, Vernal Field Manager.

The Richard Mountain Fire began at around 2pm on August 3 and has grown to over 6,500 acres. The fire remains at 0% and burns mugwort, grass, and juniper in both Utah and Wyoming.

Land administration officials posted emergency closure signs at the main entrances to the recreation area and trailheads. Maps of the affected area and other documents related to this closure are available online at utahfireinfo.gov and https://go.usa.gov/xfdNX.
