Romao Guido

Romao Guido was born August 26, 1927, in Magna Utah to Salvatore (Nick) Guido and Rosina (Falcone) Guido. He passed away on April 1st, 2022, at age 94. He was the youngest of three sons and truly loved his older brothers Dan and Tony. Raised in a proud Italian family, Rome spent the early years of his life in Magna; the family eventually moved to Salt Lake City, where he grew up and graduated from South High School.
At age 17, he joined the US Navy during World War II, stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He served honorably and was discharged in 1948. He then returned to Salt Lake City, graduating from Stevens-Henager College with an associate degree in business.
In 1952 Magna would again play a special role in his life. It was there, the then confirmed bachelor, met the most beautiful Italian girl he had ever seen, Jean Colosimo, he said it was love at first sight. Rome and Jean were married soon after on June 19, 1952. He was looking forward to celebrating a 70th wedding anniversary with his “Jeannie” this year.
He was an incredible Dad to four kids which he and Jean raised together in their Millcreek home where they have lived for the last 65 years. Romao spent his early career as an accountant for Utah Fireclay and Interpace Brick. He later joined Master-HALCO Wholesale Fencing as an office/inventory control manager, retiring in 1994.
Rome was an avid bowler in his younger years and was on many different teams at the Ritz Classic Bowling Center. He also loved golf and was a lifetime member of the Alpine Country Club. He played well into his late eighty’s, beating his age several times, and reveled in the money he would always seem to win from the much younger players in his group.
Romao was a special person that loved being around people and having fun and in turn people loved being around him. He was full of conversation, kindness, and laughs and was a joy to spend time with. Every year, he looked forward to an annual camping trip with The RockFace Boys’ where he would fish, play cards, tell stories, and enjoy more than a few adult beverages. He made his last RockFace camping trip with the boys at age 92. He will be missed, but never forgotten.
Rome is survived by his loving and devoted wife Jean, who tirelessly cared for him through the final days of his life. He is also survived by his sons Nick (Theresa) and Perry Guido, and daughters Gina Graham (Chris) and Lisa Blackham. He was Papa to 11 grandchildren and Big Papa to 7 great-grandchildren, who loved him dearly. Romao is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, and daughter-in-law Robin Guido.
A graveside service was held with immediate family on April 9th, at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Romao’s family would like to give special thanks to Kelley and Val, his hospice nurses at Encompass Health. Plus, the wonderful staff at the Wellington Senior Living Center. They all gave Rome such excellent care during his final days. Romao was a cancer survivor plus an avid Utah Jazz fan.
