Salt Lake airport hires local musicians for Christmas Eve

With thousands of vacation trips coupled with flight cancellations affecting plans, Salt Lake City International Airport offered a unique service to ease the stress of air travel.

The airport has several local musicians playing Christmas music throughout the terminal.

2News spoke to Kristeen Polhamus, an accomplished pianist from Salt Lake Valley.

Placed in front of the Canyon artwork in the airport, it performed for several hours on Christmas Eve.

Polhamus said that every year when she performs, people thank her.

“There is a special spirit here. It’s all these people – a soldier traveling, and if I’ve made it a little easier in any way, that’s what I like about it. I did something today and I go home and think about it and believe that I made a difference, ”she said.

Polhamus said she had been playing at the airport on Christmas Eve for the past 10 years. The airport is different than in the past, but the task is always the same: to inspire others through music.
