Salt Lake Police arrest two suspects in shootings in Liberty Park

Salt Lake City police arrested two men after a shooting in Liberty Park.

The events took place on Wednesday at around 12.49 p.m. near the basketball courts in Liberty Park.

According to a press release from the department, the officers responded at the scene within minutes of posting.

Parishioners alerted police to two potential suspects, both of whom were taken into custody without incident.

The suspects have been identified as Julian Lopez, 18, and Shomari Rogers, 23.

Police said at least one shot was fired and that they found the gun in a nearby tree.

No injuries from the shooting were reported.

The investigation revealed that Lopez was the one who hid the gun in the tree. Marijuana, drug paraphernalia and a large sum of cash were found in his possession.

Lopez was admitted to the Salt Lake County Metro Prison for possession of a firearm by a restricted person and possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute it.

Rogers was also found with marijuana and a large sum of cash. He was also sent to Salt Lake County Metro Prison for possession of a controlled substance with the intention of distributing it.

The actual shooting is still under investigation.
