Senior centers in Salt Lake City will reopen April 19

SALT LAKE CITY – Salt Lake City senior centers will soon be welcoming visitors and plan to reopen their doors on April 19th. Services customized to address COVID-19 concerns will be retained to offer a range of options for older adults.

“We look forward to seeing our customers back at the centers, but we plan to continue services like the Virtual Senior Center and drive through meals,” said Paul Leggett, senior manager, Salt Lake County Aging & Adult Services (SLCO) .

Salt Lake City senior centers closed a year ago, but SLCO maintained services such as lunch drive-through, weekly wellness phone calls to customers, and a senior virtual center where older adults could usually enjoy the classes, social groups, and activities in offered to the centers from home.

SLCO’s teams have also manned vaccination clinics for clients in senior centers to ensure older adults are protected when the centers reopen. New security protocols are also being introduced, e.g. B. Improved cleaning, lunch reservations and registration for indoor activities.

Face covering and social distancing are also required. “It has been a long year waiting for the centers to reopen. Once we’re open, we plan to stay open, ”Leggett said of the enhanced security measures.
