1943 — 2022

Sharon Ellen Peterson Carrigan passed peacefully into eternity after a short battle with cancer on May 31, 2022, at 79 years old. Sharon was born on April 25, 1943, in Ogden, Utah. She was born to Philip and Myrtle Peterson and was the only girl in a family of five brothers. Being the only girl, she quickly learned grit and fortitude. She was raised in humble circumstances living in a small railroad home in Peterson, Utah. She moved to Uintah with her family in 1958 to a home built brick by brick by her father. Sharon was in the first graduating class of Bonneville High School in 1961. She went on to Weber College where she played volleyball, softball, and basketball and earned her Associates degree in 1964.

She met the love of her life, Keith Carrigan, and they spent over 70 years together as buddies, friends, and sweethearts. They married in the Salt Lake Temple on January 26, 1968. Sharon moved to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas with Keith to help fulfill Keith’s commitment to the United States Army. While there, they started their family with twins Heidi and Kerry in 1969. They moved back to Utah that same year. They lived in Salt Lake while Keith finished graduate school. They eventually settled in Riverdale, Utah, and had another daughter, Heather, in 1972 and a son, Shawn, in 1977.

Sharon spent her life in the service of others. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings in the church including teaching, primary president, young women president, and relief society president, and was serving in the Riverdale 5th Ward primary at the time of her passing. She attended the Riverdale 5th Ward for over 50 years. From January 2003 to 2004, Sharon and Keith served a full-time mission for the church to the Alabama Birmingham Mission, her mission president was her brother, Jerry Peterson. They also served 22 months in the Utah Ogden Mission and in the Ogden Temple for 6 years.

Sharon’s greatest passion and accomplishment is her family. On any given Sunday, you could find her busy cooking a meal for anyone who showed up. She loved to watch and play sports. She especially loved watching her 18 grandchildren participate in their various sports and activities. She loved to read, garden, and spend time with her brothers and their families. Sharon loved all holidays and created a culture of traditions that provided genuine love and deep family ties in her home.

Sharon is survived by her husband Keith; three daughters Heidi Shaw, Kerry (David) Miner, and Heather (Matt) Jensen; her son Shawn (Jorie); 18 grand children; 4 great-grandchildren and 6 on the way; her brothers DeOrr (Ardath) Peterson, Marvin Peterson, Dennis (Beth) Peterson, Nedra Peterson, and Glen (Kathy) Peterson.
