Craig can prep his Route 44 size drink holders as the city seems tempting to welcome a new fast food option.

The site map for Sonic Drive-in was on its way to recording Wednesday morning, according to city manager Peter Brixius, as the nationwide chain got closer to their long-planned arrival in Craig.

The plans indicate that the restaurant would be east of 6th Avenue and south of US 40 / Victory Way in the country north of the Walmart parking lot and across from MRH emergency care.

“Sounds like the owners are looking for a contractor after (the site map will be taken Wednesday),” said Brixius. “If everything goes according to plan, I expect construction to start soon, but that’s up to the owners. We are not involved in this, but as soon as the site plan is recorded, it opens the door for the next approval phase. “

An area manager for the chain posted a position as general manager for future business on Facebook on Wednesday. The training was said to be in Vernal, Utah.

Sonic currently has locations in Rifle, Vernal, Rock Springs, Wyoming and several in Grand Junction. Craig Restaurant would be the only place in northwest Colorado, according to the chain’s website.

The map includes 14 of the chain’s signature drive-thru stands, as well as a covered terrace, which is common but not ubiquitous in Sonic restaurants across the country.
