Student taken off campus for bringing realistic looking Airsoft gun to school in Vernal

VERNAL, Utah — A student brought an Airsoft gun modified to look like a handgun to Vernal Middle School Tuesday morning.

According to a release from Uintah School District, another student reported, “what he saw to the front office.”

The school resource officer responded to the classroom where they escorted the student with the airsoft gun down to the office without incident.

No other details were released, other than that the student was no longer on campus.

While investigating this incident, additional students came forward and told school staff that the student with the gun had warned them last Thursday not to come to school today.

The situation will continue to be investigated but the school said there is no active threat at this time.

The school district is reminding students that they are not allowed to bring replicas or toy firearms, including airsoft guns to school.
