Teen drowns while swimming with friends, family at Deer Creek Reservoir

A teenager is dead after swimming with his family in Deer Creek Reservoir Thursday.

Authorities have not identified the 17-year-old young man who drowned while on a recreational outing with family and friends. Lt. Eric Stucki of Utah State Parks said at 4:45 p.m. that the teen was swimming with his sister in the reservoir at Deer Creek State Park. He went underwater for some unknown reason and she tried to grab him and help him but could not carry out a rescue.

The teenager was not wearing a flotation device and authorities were called when he did not reappear.

Stucki said the body was recovered around 7:30 p.m. He said the victim was expected to be identified in a press release tomorrow about the tragic incident.
