The WE Rock Grand Nationals are at the heart of Chokecherry Canyon

FARMINGTON – Jesse Haines and Chris Poblano won the unlimited division of the World Extreme Rock Crawling Grand Nationals 2021 this weekend, which ended on Sunday as hundreds of spectators watched Chokecherry Canyon.

Haines, a professional rock crawler from Sparks, Nevada, who came to the Grand Nationals this year as one of the leading riders from the West Region, beat the team of Randall Davis and Rich Klein, who was just ahead of Jacob Reeves and Jason Reeves crossed the finish line for the top spots in the Unlimited category.

The winners in the Athlete A category included John Hembel and David Bickerd, who beat Landen Brown and Wyatt Brown’s team that weekend.

Hembel and Bickerd of Hurricane, Utah, qualified for the finals after a string of strong appearances over the spring and summer, most recently at an event held in Cedar City, Utah last month.

The weekend Athlete B winners were Tyler Harper and Logan Backus of Vernal, Utah, who ousted Jonas Burnett and Shawn Cross.

Sportsman categories differ according to the tire size of the buggy. Sportsman A is defined as any tire size, while Sportsman B is for limited edition trail buggies with tire size specifications.

The Grand Nationals competition includes two days of courses in which riders and spotters try to negotiate steep terrain. To win, participants will complete the courses before going on the shootout course to determine the weekend’s winners.

The week-long event also featured shows and exhibits at the Off-Road Downtown Takeover last Friday and the Fall Crawl in Largo Canyon.
