Thomas Roberts Obituary (1946-2021) – Ogden, UT

Thomas M. Roberts died on May 19, 2021. He was born on July 13, 1946 in Des Moines, Lowa, to Kenneth and Darlene Roberts, where his father studied medicine. In 1950 they moved to Aztec, New Mexico, where Thom grew up. From 1964 to 1968 he attended New Mexico State University, where he earned a degree in chemistry and an Air Force Commission through AFROTC. On August 26, 1967, he married Marjorie (Lessentine), his high school mistress, and in July 1968 he took up active service in the Air Force.

Thom and Marge lived in a number of states including Texas, Oklahoma, California, Florida, and Ohio during his 20 years of service. While in California, Thom earned a master’s degree in safety management from USC courtesy of the Air Force. Their daughter Wendy was born there. Thom had a number of roles as security officer, including one at WPAFB in Ohio, where their son Brett was born. They also lived in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida, where he was the safety officer for the traveling inspector-general team at Eglin AFB. In 1983 the family moved back to Ohio, where Thom was involved in the development of the KC 10 tanker as a safety officer. Thom retired from active service on August 1, 1988 and was hired as a safety management supervisor for an aerospace company.

The children grew up and went on with their own lives, leaving Thom and Marge as “empty nests”. In 2009, Thom moved within the company to a branch in Ogden, Utah, because he wanted to retreat to where he could see REAL mountains. He also moved from Aztecs to Clinton with his mother to live with them until her death in 2014.

Thom retired for the second time at the end of 2011; began gardening and occupied Marge and Darlene for several years preserving canned goods and other fruits and vegetables that came from his endeavors. In 2017, Thom and Marge had a new one-story house built in Clinton (no more stairs) and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. After moving to the new house, they made some world trips to China and Southeast Asia and the next year to Europe, but then the world closed and all further expeditions ended.

Thom leaves his wife Marge, daughter Wendy (Matt) + three grandchildren, Liam, Kyan and Kiera in Minnesota. Also son Brett Roberts in lllinois, brother Larry Roberts (Margaret) and their family in ldaho and numerous cousins ​​in the Midwest.
