U of U is planning more personal classes for the fall, possibly 45% of the classes

SALT LAKE CITY – U by U College students looking to the next school year may have the opportunity to attend more in-person classes next fall.

“We expect a much more personal experience for students this fall,” said Dan Reed, senior vice president of academic affairs at the University of Utah (University).

According to Reed, the U of U plans to have at least 35% of the classes available for personal tuition, and it could go as high as 45%.

“That is exactly what means we are evolving as we look at what is happening and think about what security protocols would be appropriate.”

Priorities for personal tuition at the U of U.

The priority, he said, will go into classes where the only way to learn is by doing it.

“To be in a chemistry lab, an engineering lab, an architecture studio, art and music and of course the health professions – everyone really counts on feeling like I’ve done this with my own hands,” he told Schilf.

University officials also want to have a mix of freshman courses in person so the freshman students can get some on-campus experience.

The fall course schedule and registration dates will be available to students on March 15th. The fall courses at the university start on August 23rd.

As more classroom options are added to the curriculum, Reed said students must continue to follow health and safety best practices. Despite the recent addition of another COVID-19 vaccine, the school is still on hold.

“We are developing several contingency plans on how to turn the knob. We asked our university directors and faculties to start planning several scenarios. “

College officials also say they will support student clubs and on-campus activities in the fall, as long as they meet public health and safety guidelines.

How to prevent the spread of COVID-19 coronavirus

The COVID-19 coronavirus spreads from person to person, much like the common cold and flu. To prevent it from spreading:

  • Wash your hands frequently and thoroughly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
  • Don’t touch your face
  • Wear a mask to protect yourself and others as recommended by the CDC.
  • Keep children and people with weakened immune systems away from people who are coughing or sneezing (in this case at least two meters).
  • If an outbreak occurs near you, practice social distancing (stay home instead of going to the movies, sporting events, or other activities).
  • Get a flu shot.
