Traffic is pouring down 5600 South in Roy on Tuesday, August 28, 2018.

OGDEN – A new pattern of traffic is coming on Interstate 15 south from 5600 South in Roy to 650 North in Clearfield. According to the Utah Department of Transportation, changes to the division of the southbound lane could be made as early as Tuesday.

Delays are expected in the area as the crews remove the lane division from Monday at 8 p.m. to Tuesday at 5 a.m. UDOOT advises drivers to plan ahead.

Lt. Justin Cheney of the Utah Highway Patrol in Ogden hopes the change will help reduce the number of accidents. He said it was difficult to reach accidents in the construction corridor because of the traffic jam at the lane division.

“Be careful and watch the speeds with the new traffic pattern,” Cheney said.

The track split was made to begin work on the Union Pacific Railroad Bridge and the widening in the median of I-15. The lane removal will result in three lanes of travel south in the coming months after the UPRR bridge is completed, in addition to an Express Lane extension from Layton Parkway to Riverdale Road.

“Drivers can expect to benefit from the new Express Lane in the coming months,” said Brett Slater, UDOT I-15 Express Lanes project manager.

UDOT plans further improvements, including new bridges on Church Street and 200 South, wider bridges and the replacement of decks in five locations, new ramp meters and ramp improvements, and the replacement of concrete slabs from Hill Field Road to I-84.

The completion dates can change depending on the weather. For the latest information, see dot.utah.gov/I15express.
