Construction workers begin repairs and reconstruction on 300 South, between 700 East and 100 West, on Thursday, April 7, 2016, in Provo.

The downtown Provo segment of US 89 is in need of a full reconstruction due to aging pavement and other concerns.

In order to give residents an opportunity to speak to the subject, the Utah Department of Transportation will hold a public open house from 5-7 pm Wednesday at Franklin Elementary School, 350 S. 600 West, regarding the plans to reconstruct 300 South between University Avenue and 500 West.

Residents and businesses can see the designs and provide feedback regarding the planned roadway improvements at the open house.

This is the third and final section of US 89 within the downtown area to undergo full reconstruction that has occurred over that past decade, according to Geoff Dupaix, senior communications director.

UDOT has invested more than $41 million over the past 10 years to upgrade and provide more travel modes to better accommodate all users.

According to Dupaix, the project will also install new storm drains plus water and sewer lines, and add raised medians, on-street bicycle lanes, street lighting, new pedestrian crossings and two bicycle-specific crossings.

For any additional questions or concerns, the public can contact the project team by calling 888-556-0232, visiting udotinput.utah.gov/provo300s or via email at [email protected].

In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, anyone requiring a sign language interpreter, assistive listening system, translator or any other accommodations to facilitate their participation in the public meeting should contact the project team by Monday.
