Utah State Track & Field Wraps Up Competition at the Beach Invitational

LONG BEACH, California — Utah State track & field wrapped up competition at the Beach Invitational hosted by Long Beach State University on Saturday.

The Aggies’ efforts in Long Beach were highlighted by seniors Maia Garren and Anna Parkinson. In the shot put, Garren improved upon her personal best with a throw of 16.48 meters (54-1.00). Garren’s mark remains third-best all-time in Utah State history in the event. Garren trails only the marks of Brenn Flint (16.82 meters) and Olivia Moriconi (16.53 meters), both set in 2018. Also competing in the hammer and discus, Garren recorded finishes of 23rd and 51st, respectively, with marks of 53.52 meters (175 -7) and 42.71 meters (140-1).

In the women’s pole vault, Parkinson vaulted herself into the top 10 all-time at USU, clearing a height of 3.76 meters (12-4.00) to place second in the event. Parkinson joins sophomore Maren Garnett as the only current Aggie pole vaulter to rank in the top 10 in the event at USU.

Junior Dominic Bentil was responsible for Utah State’s final top-five finish at the competition. The sprinter from Draper, Utah, placed third in the men’s 200 meters with a time of 21.19.

Sophomore Olivia Smith narrowly missed a top-five finish of her own in the 400-meter hurdles, placing sixth in the event with a time of 1:00.52, only five-hundredths of a second behind fifth place.
