There are only a few weeks left in the regular season for 5A and 6A team sports this spring. Here is the Daily Herald’s rationale for the top five baseball, softball, boys’ soccer, girls’ lacrosse, and boys’ lacrosse teams in the Utah Valley (as of May 3):

BASEBALL1. Pleasant Grove (19-0, 9-0)

Showdown with AF this week.

2. American Fork (18-0, 9-0)

Average better than 10 runs per game.

3. Salem Hills (17-4, 9-1)

Eight wins in a row for the Skyhawks.

Knights has won three games with Westlake.

5. Timpanogos (14-5, 11-1)

A loss to Lehi ended the winning streak in eleven games.

SOFT BALL1.Spanish fork (23-1, 12-0)

Challenged by Springville for the first time, the Dons know the Red Devils are hungry for the rematch.

2. Springville (17-5, 10-2)

The Red Devils will strive to defeat their rivals and build momentum towards the state.

The pioneers threw off a heartbreaker on Mountain Ridge, but they have to look ahead and not backwards.

The Falcons only allowed 23 runs in Region 4 this year.

The Wasps have recently achieved four victories.

BOYS FOOTBALL1. Wasatch (12-2, 10-2)

Wasp’s 2-0 loss to Maple Mountain reduced their league lead to just one game.

2. Pleasant Grove (8-5, 5-2)

The Vikings have won three times in a row to take the lead in Region 4.

3. Maple Mountain (8-3, 7-3)

The golden eagles are healthy and confident, which is a dangerous combination.

The Thunder won against American Fork and Lone Peak to stay in talks for the championship title.

The Pioneers are only half a game behind Mountain Ridge in Region 7, with two left on the agenda.

GIRL LACROSSE1. Skyridge (11-1, 8-0)

Haven and Rivanna Buechner have scored 95 goals.

Park City’s # 1 10-game winning streak.

3. American Fork (7-5, 5-3)

Played Skyridge hard but lost 10-8.

Big test this week against Park City.

Gibson, Sheffield and Dani Gallman with more than 40 goals.

YOUNG LACROSSE1. American Fork (11-2, 7-1)

The cavemen hope to end the year with a trip and a breathtaking Corner Canyon.

The Thunderbirds keep winning and will not have an easy time of it when the Division A playoffs begin.

The Knights failed to win some close ones, but this team has a knack for beating everyone on the right day.

Thunder beat Pleasant Grove 9-8 last week.

Wasps couldn’t stop Park City’s powerful crime.
