Vance Hunt Obituary (1963 – 2021) – Roy, UT

VANCE TERRAL HUNT (June 30, 1963 – April 20, 2021)

Vance Terral Hunt, 57, died on April 20, 2021 at Davis Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, from a long, tough battle against liver failure and protracted illnesses.

Vance was born on June 30, 1963 in Cedar City, Utah, to Normand and Marian Hunt. He was the second of 5 children and the only boy. He spent his youngest years growing up in Enterprise UT, where he often played hard outside from sun to sun. When you couldn’t find him, he was often away to play with his best friend, Steven Hunt, who was many years older than him. They have remained good friends, and Vance even named his only son after him. He was deeply proud and loved this little town and family that live there.

The family moved to North Ogden in 1977 when Vance was in junior high. Here he dealt intensively with hunting, cars and sports, mainly basketball. He also developed a love of scouting from Grandpa Martineau and became an Eagle Scout. He graduated from Weber High School and LDS seminary in 1981.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Starting in 1982, he served an eighteen month mission in Halifax, Canada. He made deep connections with the people there and stayed in touch with a few until his final months. He had a very strong and deep testimony of the Church. That belief got him through some of the most difficult times. He has held many Church positions over the years, one of which was Second Counselor in the Diocese of Roy. If you were friends with Vance on Facebook, you would find that he has posted quotes from church leaders and positive things to uplift others and spread good works of the gospel.

On March 6, 1986, he married the love of his life, Brenda Wagstaff. She was his rock, partner, supporter, carer and angel. Together they raised 3 wonderful children, now all adults and married, and 7 grandchildren, the 8th of whom will come to us in May.

Vance was an avid hunter and an excellent marksman. He loved babies more than hunting. So he mixed his two loves together. One of the first things he taught his children and grandchildren was to recognize and make animal sounds. Before his children could barely walk, he took them hunting and scouting and taught them how to track and identify animals. This created a great love and respect for nature and the animal world in his children. There are many fond memories of family camping and being outdoors together. His proudest moments were getting “the big one” or watching his kids do the same thing.

Vance had a great deal of knowledge of many things and possessed many talents and hobbies. He had an enormous amount of knowledge about how to do and fix things that he passed on to his children. He took pride in teaching his kids how to do these things on their own and how to be as self-sufficient as possible. Vance was also part of the HAM radio community and looked after many radio towers across the state. He volunteered at command stations in the event of disasters and emergencies and used his talents with the radios. Years ago it was an important part of communication during the Riverdale Flood. He was also very fond of country music and was part of many fan clubs for many of the stars. One of his favorites was Martina McBride, in whom he met several times. Her song “I will love you through this” got him through his battle with cancer. He often got VIP tickets and was able to meet the stars before or after concerts.

Vance was also passionate about restoring and repairing older Pontiacs. He restored an old family car, a 1969 Camaro. Before and after his mission, he was often seen on the race track on the weekends and showed what he could do and how fast he could push it. He didn’t know much about cars. His knowledge and experience in mechanics was amazing. He was often able to diagnose a problem over the phone and teach his children how to repair and maintain their own vehicles.
