VanDyke and Sellers Capture Final Weekly Awards of the Season

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Two LC State Warriors earned Cascade Conference WVT Laboratory Athletes of the Week honors to close out the year, with Clayton VanDyke earning Men’s Track Athlete of the Week honors and Trent Sellers being tabbed the Pitcher of the Week for baseball. In all, LC State totaled 53 weekly conference awards throughout the 2021-22 school year.

CLAYTON VANDYKE – MEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

VanDyke was voted the Male Track Athlete of the Meet at the Cascade Conference Track and Field Championships, presented by US Bank, after repeating as the champion in the 1,500m and 800m. The senior surpassed Olympian Sam Atkin for the LC record in the 1,500m with a time of 3:45.71, currently the second-best time in the NAIA. In the 800m, the Vernal, Utah, native ran a time of 1:51.36 to capture the crown.

He also ran a leg of the school-record setting 4x400m relay that finished second to give him three all-conference honors over the weekend. This is the 11th conference weekly honor for VanDyke in his career, and fifth this season. The Warriors head to Gulf Shores, Ala., for nationals May 25-27.

TRENT SELLERS – BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Sellers helped LC State to a second consecutive CCC tournament title after earning his 11th victory of the season. The junior tossed six innings of one-run baseball against Corban and struck out nine. This is Sellers’ fourth conference weekly award this season and sixth overall.

The fifth-ranked Warriors host an NAIA Baseball National Championship Opening Round, presented by Avista, beginning Monday. LC will take on the winner of UBC/Saint Katherine at 6 pm at Harris Field.
