Virginia Boogert Obituary (1929 – 2021) – Salt Lake City, UT

Virginia Ruth Cutler Boogert

1929-2021

Virginia Ruth Cutler Boogert died on Sunday, December 12, 2021. She was born on August 9, 1929 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Milton Hamlet Cutler and Ruth Evans Cutler. She was the middle child and only daughter and grew up on C Street and 7th Avenue (now the front door of LDS Hospital). She graduated from East High School and the University of Utah (Ki-Yi) with a major in home economics with an emphasis on clothing and textiles.

In 1949 a handsome young Dutchman moved his family into the house next door. Marinus and Virginia developed a dancing friendship and romance when they were married and sealed on July 20, 1951 in the Salt Lake City Temple. Their eldest son Kim died in childbirth.

Virginia was a talented housewife, seamstress, knitter, organizer, hostess, entertainer, and party planner. She loved people and people loved her. If you were her boyfriend, you were her boyfriend forever. She has worked in many groups and organizations, mostly on supervisory boards and in management positions. Some of these are Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, Days of 47 (Royalty Chair), Saturday Luncheon Group, Jump Jazz Group, Dutch Fireside Group, The Temple Group, and many neighborhood lunch groups. Not a week went by without her social engagement, or two or three.

She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints her entire life. She served in several ward and stake callings. A greatly valued calling was to serve as a minister in the Salt Lake City Temple with her husband, Marinus, for over 12 years. Her testimony of the Savior, prayer, priesthood, and temple work were steadfast.

Her greatest legacy is her love for her husband Marinus, their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We will miss all of them. We love you mom, here.

She leaves behind her husband Marinus Cornelis Boogert; her younger brother Roger Milton (Betty) Cutler; their daughter Jann (Robert S.) Lee and their children Bryan (Amelia) Lee, Steven (Laci) Lee; her son Kent (Julie) Boogert and their children Meika Boogert, Gerrit (Heidi) Boogert, Lisa (Nathan) Carr, Jason (Kimberly) Boogert, Heather Boogert and Bryn Boogert; their son Kevin (Laurie) Boogert and their children Heidi (Peter) Sundell, Jill Boogert and Molly (Brandon) Wilde. Grandma also leaves 11 great-grandchildren, Clara and Clover Carr, Ginny and Vanden Boogert, Nixon and Jackson Sundell, Charlie, Zoey, Kate and Piper Boogert, and Thayne Lee. Her young son Kim Cutler Boogert, who preceded her death, and her brother Robert E. (Jewel) Cutler.

Services will be held on Saturday, December 18, 12:00 p.m. in Foothill 2nd Ward (1930 South 2100 East, Salt Lake City, Utah 84108) with a tour of 10:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. prior to the service.
