Wasatch gets No. 1 seed in 5A boys soccer tournament, Skyridge gets No. 2 slot in 6A | High School Boys Soccer

Eight boys’ class 6A teams said goodbye to the 2021 state tournament in the first round, three of them from the Utah Valley.

Only three teams in Class 5A get the same luxury, with Wasatch being the only local squad able to skip the first round.

No. 2 Skyridge, No. 5 Westlake, and No. 8 Pleasant Grove highlighted the 6A State Tournament Bracket, which was officially released Wednesday morning by the Utah High School Activities Association.

Nobody came close to the undefeated Weber, who finished first, but the differences between second and ninth were not that big (only seven percentage points separated these eight teams).

The Falcons (13-4 overall) benefited significantly from having the opponent’s best winning percentage in the ratings Percentage Index (RPI) formula that determined playoff seedings. That’s what got Skyridge that spot over No. 3 Herriman (13-3) and No. 4 Davis (12-3-1).

Westlake (11-5) and Pleasant Grove (10-6) have also done enough to get through the first round and host their first opponent of the playoffs in the second round, which will take place at home on May 18th.

The other two Utah Valley boys’ soccer teams will play in the first round on May 14, as Lone Peak plays # 12 host # 21 Fremont and # 19 American Fork at # 14 Granger.

In the 5A ranks, the 14-2 record set by the Wasps was enough to take first place over Mountain Ridge # 2 (13-3) and Brighton # 3 (12-4). These teams will start their tournament in the second round at home on May 18th.

Since class 5A has more teams, the rest of the teams in the classification will play in the first round (including at home).

Maple Mountain # 4 (11-4), which fell 0.17 percentage points below the top three, will host Cottonwood # 29.

In two first round battles, teams from the Utah Valley will play against each other as Salem Hills No. 6 greets Orem No. 27 in Salem, while Lehi No. 14 will host Timpview No. 19 in a Region 7 rematch.

The other Utah Valley home teams in the 5A tournament are No. 9 Spanish Fork, which is No. 24 East.

No. 21 Timpanogos (No. 12 Bountiful), No. 22 Provo (No. 11 Viewmont), No. 25 Springville (No. 8 Murray), No. 26 Mountain View (No. 7 Alta) and No. 28 Payson (No. . 5 Farmington) will all be out and about to solve big problems.

All games of the first round are to take place on May 14th at 4 p.m.
