Weather delays affecting post-Christmas travelers in, out of Utah

SALT LAKE CITY – Winter weather still affects travelers to and from Utah.

TODAY FORECAST: Snow storms expected by Monday

FOX 13 spoke to some passengers at the airport who could not go home on Sunday.

“She should be here at 9:15 am. It’s 11:45 am now, ”said Park City’s Tanya McIntyre.

Many travelers today had to change their plans after large delays and even cancellations hampered travel to Heaven.

Busy travel day @slcairport as passengers return home from vacation. This in combination with the snowy weather is one more reason to plan a lot of time. Check with your airline in advance about possible flight cancellations. Thank you for your patience and safe journey!

At least 26,000 passengers should pass the airport on Sunday.

Snow removal teams at Salt Lake City International Airport spent hours on Sunday morning clearing the airfield and deicing planes.

The weather not only affected the flight plans, it also caused some turbulence in the sky.

“It was definitely bumpy. Lots of people lost their stomachs, lots of people grabbed their bags to do their business, ”said McIntyre.

Chuck and Bonnie Temple have to stay an extra day in Utah due to bad weather.

“In the middle of the trip we got a delay and then another delay. And then we finally decided that we would just rebook. The best we can get is at 10:45 pm tomorrow night, “said Chuck Temple of Oregon.

The temples decided to spend an extra day with the family. However, they say they are exhausted.

“Five grandchildren under five – it’s happy, but it’s chaos,” said Bonnie Temple.

Part of the problem is the weather at the other end of their Oregon trip.

“We could probably get out of here, we just can’t end up in Eugene. It’s also hard to involve crews; Eugene doesn’t have any snow gear either. Well, minimal, ”said Chuck Temple.
