Weber State Suffers Disappointing Loss At Home To Portland State

OGDEN, Utah – The Weber State Wildcats failed to beat Portland State on Saturday when they fell 30-18 at Stewart Stadium.

Weber State’s offense could not get under way, and their defense could not contain the Vikings’ offensive.

Bronson Barron made 18 of his 28 pass attempts for 174 yards. Creyton Cooper had seven carries for 76 yards and two touchdowns. Rashid Shaheed led the recipient group with seven receptions for 90 yards.

Cooper scored the game’s first touchdown on a 51-yard run to put the Wildcats 7-0 ahead in the first quarter. Portland State responded with 17 unanswered points from the second quarter through the beginning of the third quarter. The Vikings had a 17-7 lead before Weber State scored a field goal. Portland State took the lead at 17:10 early in the fourth quarter.

PSU scored a touchdown early in the fourth to extend their lead to 24-10 before Cooper ran a 2-yard touchdown just over four minutes later. Malik Walker got the game out of reach with a 39-yard touchdown run in the final two minutes.

Portland State had a total of 395 yards of offensive, including 299 passing and 96 rushing yards.

Weber State cut their record to 4-5 overall and 3-3 in the Big Sky game. They will battle their rival Southern Utah in Cedar City on Saturday, November 13th at 2pm MT on ESPN + and 103.1 FM “The Wave”.
