Wildcats, Cougars Set to Clash

PROVO, Utah – After taking down Penn State and Navy dominantly last week, the Central Washington University rugby team heads down to Utah to take on the BYU Cougars. The match is scheduled for 6:00 pm on Oct. 14 at Helaman Field.

The Cougars are 2-0 in their fall slate with wins against Utah Valley University and BYU Alumni. In 2021, BYU posted a 15-2 record. In close affairs, the Wildcats and Cougars faced off twice as the Crimson and Black fell in both matchups.

Last weekend, the ‘Cats headed east, taking down the Penn State Nittany Lions on Thursday, October 6, with a score of 63-12. On the day, Tessa Hann, Keia Mae Sagapolu, Sammy Stern, Kai Brandt-Templeton and Lilly Thomas scored tries for the Wildcats.

After defeating the Nittany Lions, CWU traveled down to Annapolis, MD for a battle against Navy on Saturday, Oct. 8. CWU won convincingly 69-8.

Scoring tries for the Wildcats was Maddie Hadden, Jessica Postle, Winnie Namosimalua, Ellie Frost, Emma McCabe, Kerena Tinoisamoa, Mariah Tuitasi and Hann.

“The trip was a great one for the program. To play quality rugby against quality programs helped us work out some different combinations and made it apparent on what we can work on to improve as we head into the next part of the season,” Head Coach Matthew Ramirez said after the win at Navy. “Very proud of this squad.”
