Winter weather turns off electricity for thousands across Utah

Above the Wasatch Front, Tuesday night quickly turned to snow, making for a very busy night for the power crews.

By 5:30 a.m., Rocky Mountain Power reported just over 5,500 customers without power across Beehive State. That number rises from just over 3,000 customers at 5 a.m.

RMP found that they are aware of the situation and have crews working around the clock to restore power as soon as possible.

Provo Power also said their crews are out and about, actively working to return power to those who don’t have them.

Both utilities said the outages were due to the extreme weather and the heavy, wet snow that came with it.

RMP said in a note on their outage map that customers should prepare to be without power by Wednesday afternoon.

You also mentioned the importance of staying safe during an event like this one.

If you see fallen power lines, always assume they have power and avoid going near them. Also, do not use propane or any other type of fuel to heat your home as this can start a fire.
