VERNAL, Utah – A child was killed and a woman was seriously injured after she was shot and killed near Fantasy Canyon in Uintah County.
Deputies from the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office were sent to the area around 2:30 p.m. Monday after hearing that a 40-year-old woman and a 3-year-old boy had been shot.
When the officers arrived, they found the woman west of SR-45 on Glen Bench Road. They found the boy dead too.
The woman, identified as the boy’s mother, received medical treatment on site.
It was later found that she had to be hospitalized because of the severity of her injuries.
“Investigators continue to process multiple scenes as they work to determine the circumstances of the shooting,” the sheriff’s office said, adding that they “do not believe that there are any suspects or that there is no threat to the public.”
