Long-term multidisciplinary recovery
In an effort to provide more complete and coordinated care to COVID-19 patients who continue to have lingering effects of the disease, the University of Utah Health has opened a post-COVID-19 care clinic. The clinic, which began accepting appointments June 1, 2021, will provide medical services to self-described COVID-19 “long distance riders” in Mountain West who have one or more symptoms that persist weeks or months after the initial infection . The clinic aims to treat common long-distance symptoms, including:
- fatigue
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- cough
- Joint pain
- Chest pain
- Problems with memory, concentration, or sleep
- Muscle pain or headache
- Fast or pounding heartbeat
- Loss of smell or taste
- Depression or anxiety
- fever
- Dizziness when standing
- Symptoms worsen after physical or mental activity
Being coordinated by a single provider helps specialists focus on what they can do specifically for a patient as part of an overall care plan. The clinic will also research the long-term effects of COVID-19 in the hopes that it will lead to better treatments.
