Castle Amphitheater – Provo, Utah

The Castle Amphitheater, sometimes also called Provo Castle is a unique historic building on the grounds of the Utah State Hospital in Provo, Utah.

The Castle Amphitheater was built between 1936 and 1937 and was one of around 230 public works erected in Utah under New Deal programs. The amphitheater offered space for around 800 people and had several interior rooms.

In the 1970s, the Castle Amphitheater was used as a “haunted castle” on Halloween. The haunted castle was open to the public and all proceeds went to the hospital’s recovery fund.

Today the Castle Amphitheater is open to the public, but visitors must check-in at Utah State Hospital in the main administration building. Visitors can explore and roam the amphitheater unless there is a public or private event.
