Dixie uses a strong second half to overtake Provo at the season opener

After a slow start, the Dixie High (1-0) basketball team flew to a new height in the second half behind Risko Brooks and the second Kyle Lemke on the way to an 83:60 win over Provo (0-3) in the hangar on Thursday evening.

With an 11:10 lead in the second quarter, the Flyers offense finally found a foothold in the first minutes of the second quarter.

With Cam Dyer in trouble, head coach Tyler Roberts used the 6’8 “Lemke alongside the 6’11” Kean Webb.

The move paid off immediately as Dixie opened a 26-20 lead after a corner triple from BreckonRobinson and a pair of buckets from Grant Carter, highlighting a 12-5 run for Dixie.

“The biggest thing about (her on the pitch) is, of course, that we make it big,” said Roberts. “It helped grow big for a while and then we took what started our transition into small things. We just take what the defense gives us. That’s the nice thing about all these guys (is that ) that we are profound. “

Provo, similar to the first three quarters, recovered and shortened Dixie’s lead to one before another Flyers burst led the hosts to break at 34:27.

Dyer quickly lost four points early in the second half before conceding his fourth foul 6:27 in the third quarter, and Roberts turned back from the bench to Lemke.

The sophomore year responded again with six points, increasing the lead to 52-39.

“I told everyone on Media Day, ‘If you don’t know who he is, you will know who he is by the end of the season,'” said Roberts. “He just keeps getting better. The most impressive thing about him is that he is the most trained player I have ever trained.”

Lemke scored 18 points off the bench and underscored his night by finishing a feed of praise from his sophomore colleague Jrodan Roberts

Aaron Castagnetto then scored seven of the next nine points in the game, reducing Dixie’s lead to six at the end of the third.

“Great player. This kid can shoot it and he can score from anywhere on the ground and get to the free-throw line.”

Castagnetto finished the Bulldogs lead with 23 points.

The fourth quarter, however, belonged to Risko Brooks.

The senior guard scored nine of his 24 high play value points in the quarterfinals and used his quick first step to reach the basket with ease, pitching Bronson Barben for a wide open corner three for the dagger.

Risko Brooks wants to cut his man against Provo at the end of the fourth quarter. Brooks scored nine of his 24 points in the last frame.

“Risko took over the game there for a while. He’s so quick, comes in the basket and can be finished … That spark also came from Risko’s defense.”

Grant Carter added 16 points for Dixie to the win.
