INGLEWOOD, Calif. (AP) – Third-string quarterback Cooper Legas threw two touchdown passes, Calvin Tyler Jr. ran 120 yards and a score, and Utah State beat Oregon State 24-13 on Saturday night in the first LA Bowl on Saturday night. Legas came into play when starter Logan Bonner sustained a knee injury in the first quarter. Andrew Peasley was Bonner’s replacement throughout the season, but was excluded before kick-off due to a shoulder injury sustained against New Mexico on November 26th. Legas’ only action that season was late in the game against New Mexico. The second sophomore’s first college pass couldn’t have gone better when he hit a 62-yard touchdown strike with Deven Thompkins to tie it at 7.

EUGENE, Oregon (AP) – Kendall Brown and James Akinjo each scored 17 points and No. 1 Baylor defeated Oregon 78-70 on Saturday night. SEATTLE (AP) – Emmitt Matthews Jr. scored 11 of his 17 points as part of a big run to kick off the second half, and Washington returned to the field for the first time in three weeks with a 64-56 win over Seattle. The Huskies hadn’t played in the program since Nov. 27 due to a COVID-19 outbreak that resulted in Washington pausing all team activities and losing a conference game. Matthews sparked a 20-2 run in the first seven minutes of the second half, which made up a seven-point deficit. Riley Grigsby led Seattle with 20 points and Darrion Trammell added 18.

PHOENIX (AP) – Boogie Ellis scored 16 points, Drew Peterson added 14, and No. 10 Southern California overcame a shaky start, defeating Georgia Tech 67-53 in the Colangelo Classic. It took the Trojans some time to clear Georgia Tech’s Aggressive Zone and relied on their defenses early on before breaking away from the Yellow Jackets. USC made a big run to lead by nine at halftime and kept shooting in the second time to stay undefeated. Georgia Tech (5-5) has struggled through a series of tough games, losing to Wisconsin, North Carolina and No. 19 LSU before arriving in the desert. Michael Devoe led the Yellow Jackets with 25 points.

PULLMAN, Washington (AP) – DJ Rodman has broken off the bench, scoring 21 points in his career in 6v11 from 3-point distance, and Washington State defeated Northern Colorado 82-56. Rodman, a 6-foot-6 junior, also grabbed 10 rebounds with a career high for his first double-double of his career. Northern Colorado’s success was brief as Matt Johnson II and Daylen Kountz buried 3 points in a row to start the game. But Washington State countered with 12 straight points and the Cougars led the rest of the way. Kur Jongkuch and Dru Kuxhausen each scored 11 points for Northern Colorado.

TUCSON, Arizona (AP) – Azuolas Tubelis had 19 points and Bennedict Mathurin added 14 as No. 8 Arizona shook off a slow start, beating Cal Baptist 84-60. Cal Baptist (8-3) was led by Ty Rowell, who had 11 points and was 3 for 3 out of 3-point range, while freshman guard Taran Armstrong finished with nine points, three assists and four turns.

PROVO, Utah (AP) – Paisley Harding scored 20 points, Tegan Graham added 15 and BYU in 20th retired for a 71-53 win over Washington State. BYU bounced back after losing his first game of the 99-91 season in overtime in Oklahoma. Charlisse Leger-Walker hit 6 of 10 3-pointers and scored 21 points for the WSU.
