Jacque Lynn George Weekes | university

Jacque Lynn George Weekes, 65, of Rexburg, Idaho, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, April 29, 2021 after a long battle with chronic disease anemia.

She was born on August 17, 1955 in Coos Bay, Oregon, to Clarence Clifford George and Norma Evelyn Webster, “where the mountains meet the sea.”

After graduating from Marshfield High School in Coos Bay, Jacque attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. At BYU she met her future husband Ronald Craig Weekes from Stockton, California.

Each year throughout their married life they celebrated the anniversary of their first meeting: October 18, 1975. Jacque and Ron were sealed for time and all eternity on June 23, 1976 in the LDS Temple in Oakland, California. In the summer of 1988, Jacque returned to Provo to take the eleven credit hours needed for her Bachelor of Arts.

Jacque enjoyed playing tennis, skiing, exploring the Oregon coast, competing as a member of the BYU bowling team, solving cryptogram puzzles, and walking the muddy mountain roads around Rexburg in the family’s Ford Escort Station wagon and later in a Ford Explorer to drive. Both she and Ron had a mutual love for playing guitar and singing together.

Jacque worked as a director of human resources for department stores in Montgomery Ward in Beckley, West Virginia. Las Cruces, New Mexico; and Pueblo, Colorado. The opportunity then arose to move to Rexburg, Idaho, where she was hired by Ricks College, now Brigham Young University-Idaho, as director of careers and academic counseling.

Everyone who worked with her knew how much she loved and valued the position, mostly because of one thing: the students. Early in her college tenure, she founded the College Academic Advising Satellite Centers. These centers are still used on campus today to help students find their dream careers and ensure they are well on their way to graduation.

Her office door was always open to each of her “ten thousand children”. Many remember Jacque for “her bright smile”. While at BYU-Idaho, she constantly played oxymorons with then-University President Elder David A. Bednar. When health reasons forced her to quit her dream job, it “broke her heart and crushed her mind.”

Jacque was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was also an advisor to the Lambda Delta Sigma Sorority Gamma chapter at Ricks College.

Jacque is survived by her husband Ron for nearly 45 years; Children: Jared (Janae) Weekes of Mesa, Arizona; Jenessa Weekes (Eddy) Taengkaew of Winchester, California; and Julie Weekes of Jerome, Idaho; Grandchildren: Brighton, Addison, and Emerson Weekes of Mesa, Arizona; and Collin and Asher Taengkaew of Winchester, California. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Nancy Weekes Hill, of West Jordan, Utah. and her nephew, Brett Smith, also from West Jordan, Utah.

Jacque is also survived by her brother Clifford (Sherry) George of Redmond, Oregon; her sister Sandy Reynolds of West Palm Beach, Florida; Brother-in-law Steve Pennington of Coquille, Oregon; and sister-in-law Sharon George of Coos Bay, Oregon. Her nieces and nephews include: Rick Duncan of Port Saint Lucie, Florida; Daniel Duncan of West Palm Beach, Florida; Mike (Heather) George of Coos Bay, Oregon; Tammy George (Clint) Stagg of Vernal, Utah; Glen (Joanne) Pennington of Sacramento, California; Donna Snyder, Diane (John) Schroeder, Tracy (Bob) Myrtle, and Scott (Cari) George, all from Coos Bay, Oregon.

She has preceded the death of both of her parents; Brothers Cliff George Jr. of Coos Bay, Oregon; Richard George of Roseburg, Oregon; Donald George of Coos Bay, Oregon; Sister Nancy Pennington of Coquille, Oregon; and brother-in-law Tom Hill of West Jordan, Utah.

Not to be forgotten are two rescue dogs who brought sunshine into their room when Jacque was no longer mobile and could no longer go out and enjoy nature: Ringo and Meeko.

The visitation will take place on Thursday, May 6, 2021 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Flamm Funeral Home in Rexburg, Idaho. The funeral services will be held on Friday May 7, 2021 at Cresthaven LDS Chapel, 387 S 4th E, Rexburg, presided over by Bishop Brian Downey of the Valley View LDS Ward. The tour takes place from 10 a.m. to 10.45 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m.

The funeral will take place in Sutton Cemetery in Archer, Idaho.

When a longtime neighbor and friend recognized Jacques’ eternal legacy, he called “sweet Jacque an unwavering chosen one”. Jacque taught all of her children how to “love everyone. Never see color, shape, size. “May we all follow Jacques’ example with all we meet until it is our time to return home to our loving Heavenly Father.
