Marquette drops to 14th BYU 7-0 – Marquette Wire

The women’s Marquette football team suffered a 7-0 loss to BYU number 14 at South Field in Provo, Utah, Thursday night.

It is the Golden Eagles’ second consecutive loss and their first loss of the season on the road.

For the second game in a row, Marquette found herself in a hole.

BYU came out and shot four shots in the first ten minutes against Marquette’s first year Redshirt goalkeeper Lauren Schill.

BYU striker Cameron Tucker crossed the ball into the box in the 11th minute, and sophomore midfielder Olivia Wade sailed it past Schill’s diving hands.

The Cougars continued to have possession and control for the next 27 minutes.

Second year striker Bella Folino increased the Cougars lead to two after a pass from Mikayla Colohan in the 21st minute.

Seven minutes later, Marquette had the first offensive counterattacks at halftime. However, the back line of the Cougars did not allow the Golden Eagles to pick up a single shot.

BYU didn’t stop there in the first half.

Eleven minutes from time, Colohan shot one into the far left post from the top of the 18-meter space and scored her third goal of the season.

It was the second game in a row that MU went into halftime behind. The Golden Eagles were defeated 16-0 in the first frame.

Marquette’s second half was no different.

First grader Chloe Olson replaced Schill between pipes to start the final 45 minutes.

In the 57th minute, Tucker put Olson behind to give BYU a 4-0 lead.

Five minutes later, second striker Brecken Mozingo cracked a pass from an MU defender while walking up the sideline. Then the (native) fired one on the left side of the net for the fifth goal of the evening for the Cougars.

In the 78th minute, Cougar’s first-time striker Addie Gardner hit the net and first-year midfielder Caroline Stringfellow tipped it into the net after Gardner’s shot was tipped from the hands of Olson.

The Cougars would then add another goal of the night in the 84th minute from Gardner’s 84th minute.

BYU knocked out Marquette 33-5 on Thursday night.

Schill ended the night with two saves, while Olson ended with a game high nine.

Marquette (1-2) finishes the two-game road trip in the state of Utah on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. CEST.
