October 8 data: Utah nears 3,000 COVID-19 deaths since the pandemic began

The Utah Department of Health reported that another 11 Utahners have been killed by COVID-19 since Thursday.

This brings the total number of COVID-19 deaths in Utah to 2,994 – just six deaths out of 3,000 away.

The majority of the newly reported deaths were again men. A Utah County man between the ages of 25 and 44 was among the deaths reported today.

Accompanied by the new deaths, 1,637 new positive tests were reported. 362 of these tests belong to school-age children.

The 7-day rolling average for positive tests is now 1,424 per day.

THE UDOH WILL REPORT THE FOLLOWING FRIDAY:

Positive:

  • We will report 520,190 positive cases today. That’s an increase of 1,637 new cases since yesterday.

School-age cases:

  • School-age children account for 362 of the newly reported cases today. As of yesterday, we will be reporting 187 cases in children aged 5 to 10 years, 77 cases in children aged 11 to 13 years and 98 cases in children aged 14 to 17 years.

Vaccinations:

  • We will report 3,548,335 total doses administered today. This is an increase of 9,282 doses since yesterday.

Vaccinated vs. unvaccinated risk ratio:

  • In the past 28 days, unvaccinated people had a 15.8 times higher risk of dying from COVID-19, a 12.1 times higher risk of being hospitalized for COVID-19, and a 6.8- times higher risk of testing positive for COVID-19 than vaccinated people.
  • As of February 1, 2021, unvaccinated people have a 9.8 times higher risk of dying from COVID-19, 7.8 times higher risk of being hospitalized for COVID-19, and 4.1 – times the risk of testing positive for COVID-19 than vaccinated people.

Laboratory tests:

  • We will report 3,526,903 people tested. This is an increase of 10,319 people tested since yesterday.
  • We will report a total of 6,348,491 tests. This is an increase of 18,982 tests since yesterday.

Tendencies:

  • The 7-day rolling average for positive tests is 1,424 per day.
  • The 7-day rolling average for the percent positivity of “people over people” is 15.4%. The 7-day rolling average for percent positivity for “tests over tests” is 10.2%.

Hospital stays:

  • There are currently 572 people in hospital with COVID-19. The total number of hospital admissions since the outbreak began is 22,662.

Deaths:

We will report a total of 2,994 deaths, that’s 11 new deaths since yesterday.

  • Male, between 65 and 84, Uintah County, hospitalized at death
  • Male, between 45 and 64, residents of Cache County, hospitalized at death
  • Male, between 65 and 84, residents of Sanpete, hospitalized at the time of death
  • Female, between 65 and 84, resident of Washington County, hospitalized at death
  • Male, between 45 and 64, residents of Salt Lake County, hospitalized at the time of death
  • Male, between 65 and 84, residents of Juab County, hospitalized at the time of death
  • Male, between 65 and 84, residents of Sanpete County, hospitalized at the time of death
  • Male, between 25 and 44, residents of Utah County, hospitalized at the time of death
  • Male, between 65 and 84, residents of Sanpete County, hospitalized at the time of death
  • Male, between 65 and 84, Weber County residents, residents of a long-term care facility
