The city of Orem has opened a new professional level communications specialist job to work specifically with Mayor Dave Young and the City Council.
Karen Tapahe will fill the new position after working as the community outreach and public information officer for the Provo City Council.
“I’m excited for this opportunity to work with Orem’s elected officials. Helping the public understand how to access their local government is incredibly fulfilling,” Tapahe said. “It’s wonderful to see so many people engaging in current issues here, and I am getting myself ready to take on the challenges of another vibrant, growing city.”
The Communications Specialist works under the direction of the Deputy City Manager. The position is focused on communications, public relations and communications strategy for the Mayor and City Council.
This is a new position in the city and Tapahe will be working with the deputy city manager and with the communication department.
“We are thrilled to have a professional of Karen’s experience and ability to join our team. She has proven herself an effective and dedicated communicator in her work with the Provo City Council and the Provo neighborhood program,” said Pete Wolfley, communications and innovations officer. “We look forward to working with her and taking our city communications and outreach to the next level.”
Tapahe’s first day will be Monday, Aug. 15. Her main focus will be helping the Mayor and City Council connect with citizens through various communication channels. In addition to her duties with the Mayor and Council, the communications team anticipates she will help with public events.
“While it is difficult to step away after eight years of serving the Provo City Council, I look forward to bringing the skills I’ve honed in Provo to benefit the residents of Orem,” Tapahe said.
