Possible shots at Uintah High School reported, authorities say

VERNAL, Utah – Authorities said Wednesday there will be additional patrols around Uintah High School after staff reported hearing a gunshot.

According to a statement from the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office, guards entering through the back of the building around 4:30 a.m. reported hearing what sounded like a .22 caliber shot and a ricochet. The officers responded and searched, but found nothing.

The area behind the school consists of open fields and farmland.

“Out of great caution, the Uintah School District decided to cancel all morning activities and exercises at the high school,” the UCSO statement said. “The MPs are still investigating the incident and will be present on campus all day.”
